What to expect

Build, test and pitch an AI application in under nine hours at Google Ireland’s in-person student hackathon in Dublin on 11 September 2026. Hosted at Google Docks from 9am to 6pm, this intensive one-day challenge gives selected undergraduates the opportunity to turn an idea into a working prototype with support from Google engineers.

From idea to judged prototype

Participants can create a web app, mobile product or backend prototype using their preferred programming language and technology stack. Teams will use Google AI Studio and Cloud Workstations to build, test and deploy their projects, while Google engineers offer guidance on architecture, debugging and product strategy.

The day follows a tightly structured build-and-pitch format:

  • 9am: Introductions and the start of the hackathon
  • One-hour ideation session: Shape the problem, product concept and proposed solution
  • Mentoring and feedback: Get input before development begins
  • 11am–4pm: Five-hour coding window, with lunch scheduled during the build
  • 4:15pm: Final deadline for project submissions
  • Final hour: Team presentations, judging, awards and closing session

Entries will be assessed across technical execution, product design, innovation, teamwork and realistic business impact. The highest-rated teams will receive Google hardware and other prizes, while every participant is set to receive Google-branded merchandise.

Who should apply?

The hackathon is intended for bachelor’s or undergraduate students studying computer science or a related subject. It is best suited to students who want practical experience building AI-powered software under time pressure, collaborating as a team and presenting a product to judges. Because participants may choose their own stack and project format, the challenge leaves room for different technical interests and approaches.

Places are limited and registration does not guarantee an invitation. Applicants must submit an updated CV and grant Google access to view it. Applications close on 19 August 2026, after which Google will review submissions and send outcomes and next steps within one week. Shortlisted students will receive further information ahead of the event.…
