About this event

What to expect

A free online session for charity professionals exploring practical, responsible AI adoption, taking place from 10:00–11:00 on 28 October 2026.

What to expect

Hosted by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), DigiShift 96 offers an accessible guide for non-profits that recognise the importance of AI but are unsure where to begin, or whether they are using it effectively.

Steve MacLaughlin, SVP of Product at Gobel and author of AI Driven Nonprofits, will draw on more than 20 years of work across data, technology and philanthropy. Using insights from his new book and real-world examples, he will explore:

  • Practical first steps organisations can take with AI
  • What responsible and effective adoption looks like
  • Bias, privacy and transparency
  • Why cultural change matters as much as technology
  • How AI can reduce repetitive work and create more time for relationships, creativity and impact

This is not a technical manual or a prediction about the distant future. It is a grounded session focused on combining human purpose with AI capabilities, without framing the technology as a replacement for people.

The event is suitable for anyone working at any level in a charity who is interested in developing digital skills across their workforce. It forms part of DigiShift, an initiative run by SCVO with Third Sector Lab and supported by the National Lottery Community Fund (Scotland).

Attendance is online and free. For event queries, contact Maddie Stark on 07764 968239.
