What to expect

Join the Bristol AI Ethics community for an evening dedicated to examining the ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence in May 2026. This monthly meetup brings together technologists, ethicists, researchers, and concerned citizens to discuss the responsible development and deployment of AI systems.

The event follows a structured format designed to keep you informed and engaged. The evening kicks off at 6pm with arrival and networking, giving you the chance to connect with fellow attendees who share your interest in AI ethics. At 6:30pm, the session begins with a Monthly News Roundup covering the latest developments, controversies, and breakthroughs in AI ethics from around the world. This is followed by the Main Talk at 6:50pm (speaker to be confirmed), which typically features experts discussing topics such as algorithmic bias, AI governance, privacy concerns, transparency in machine learning, or the societal impact of automation.

After the main presentation, there's dedicated time for Q&A and Discussion at 7:20pm, allowing you to engage directly with speakers and fellow attendees. The format encourages open dialogue about the complex ethical questions surrounding AI development. At 7:35pm, the evening transitions to a more informal setting where you can grab a drink and continue conversations. The session concludes with Positive Actions at 7:50pm, focusing on practical steps and initiatives that can promote ethical AI development.

This meetup is ideal for anyone concerned about the ethical implications of artificial intelligence — whether you're a developer building AI systems, a researcher studying their impact, a policymaker crafting regulations, or simply a curious citizen wanting to understand how AI affects society. No technical background is required; the discussions are designed to be accessible while still addressing substantive issues.

The event takes place at Torchbox on Colston Street in Bristol. The venue is accessible via a short ramp to the front door, with lift and stair access to the third floor where the event is held. The building must be vacated by 8:30pm, but formal programming wraps up by 8pm, leaving time for additional networking if desired.

Bristol AI Ethics runs regular monthly meetups creating a consistent space for the community to stay informed about AI ethics developments and engage in meaningful discussions about building AI responsibly. [Reg
