About this event

What to expect

Explore practical approaches to secure, privacy-preserving IoT at Digital Catapult in Belfast on 24 September 2026. IoT Belfast’s 35th meetup brings together experts and the local technology community to examine identity, trust and data protection across connected systems.

Part of Belfast Tech Week 2026, the evening will focus on how organisations can collect, share and use connected-device data while maintaining privacy, security and confidence in its origins. It will also consider the policies and guardrails needed as IoT environments become increasingly autonomous and agentic.

Talks and speakers

Tim Wood, Technology Specialist at Digital Catapult, will present Privacy Enhancing Technologies for IoT. Drawing on a background in cryptography, high-assurance environments and privacy-preserving identity standards, Tim will explain how advanced cryptographic protocols can generate insight without exposing the underlying data. Examples will include Federated Learning for privacy-preserving AI model training and Multi-Party Computation for producing population-level statistics.

Keerthi Thomas, Senior Technologist at Digital Catapult, will deliver Enabling Know Your Assets/Agents (KYA) in Trusted Networks. His session will explore:

  • Digital identity for IoT devices and autonomous agents
  • Secure peer-to-peer connections
  • Protocols supporting data provenance
  • Decentralised access control
  • Policies for increasingly agentic systems

Keerthi has more than 20 years of industry experience and contributes to BSI and ISO standardisation in decentralised identity management. A third speaker and topic will be announced separately.

Format and schedule

Doors open at 6:30pm for informal networking and refreshments, followed by welcomes from Martin Naughton of Galvia Digital and Digital Catapult at 7pm. Talks begin at 7:10pm, with each speaker allocated 15 minutes plus five minutes for audience questions. From approximately 8:10pm, the programme moves into networking and informal discussion before closing at 9:30pm.…
