About this event

What to expect

Join the inaugural Belfast NetSec Launch meetup at The Innovation Factory in Belfast — a new community for backend developers, security enthusiasts, and anyone interested in network security and ethical hacking. This casual launch event brings together Northern Ireland's tech community to shape the future direction of Belfast's newest security-focused meetup.

What to Expect

This relaxed evening kicks off at 6:30 PM with pizza and drinks, providing an informal space to connect with fellow security professionals and enthusiasts. The organiser, a backend developer passionate about security, designed this first session as a collaborative planning meeting where attendees will decide the group's focus areas for upcoming months.

Evening Schedule:

  • 6:30 PM: Pizza & networking — casual conversations about current projects and interests
  • 7:00 PM: Community planning session to determine topics like Wireshark analysis, AWS security, home lab setups, latest exploit research, or Capture The Flag (CTF) competitions
  • 8:00 PM: Co-host opportunity discussion for those interested in helping organize technical labs
  • 8:30 PM: Wrap-up

Who Should Attend

This event welcomes everyone from complete beginners to experienced security professionals. Whether you're a backend developer exploring security practices, a system administrator interested in network defense, or simply curious about cybersecurity, this community aims to create an inclusive environment for learning and collaboration. No laptops required for this first session — just bring your curiosity and appetite for pizza.

Community Direction

Belfast NetSec aims to become a hands-on community where members actively shape the content and direction. Potential focus areas include network protocol analysis, cloud security on platforms like AWS, building home security labs, researching emerging vulnerabilities and exploits, or competitive CTF challenges. The community will collectively decide which topics to prioritize based on member interests and expertise levels.

The organiser is actively seeking a co-host or partner to help run technical labs and organize future sessions, making this an excellent opportunity for experienced practitioners looking to give back to Belfast's growing tech scene.
