What to expect

Spark your child's creativity and technical skills this summer at NewTechKids' 5-day robotics bootcamp in Amsterdam, where 8-12 year olds will design, build and code robot-powered games at the iconic Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam.

What Makes This Bootcamp Special

This bilingual (Dutch and English) summer programme transforms traditional games into tech inventions. Over five intensive days, children will reimagine familiar games like catapults, dominos and pinball by building LEGO robots that bring them to life. The week culminates in kids designing their own game complete with a point-scoring system—combining physical construction, creative thinking and programming logic.

Working in pairs with LEGO robotics kits and art supplies, participants will learn fundamental computer science concepts including coding, algorithms, commands, loops, sequences, iteration and if-else logic. The hands-on approach ensures children understand both the 'how' and 'why' behind technology creation.

What Your Child Will Learn

  • Design thinking principles: working with resources and requirements, testing prototypes, iterating on ideas
  • Core programming concepts using visual coding interfaces
  • Robotics construction and mechanical problem-solving
  • Collaborative teamwork and peer learning
  • Presentation skills through daily demonstrations to classmates and parents

Programme Details

The bootcamp runs daily from 10:00-14:00, July 13-17, 2026, in the Junior Lab at Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (5-minute walk from Centraal Station). A native Dutch-speaking professional teacher with specialized computer science training leads the sessions, following NewTechKids' proven concept-context learning pedagogy.

This programme welcomes complete beginners alongside children with previous coding experience. Girls are especially encouraged to participate. Each child who completes the bootcamp receives a NewTechKids diploma.

Morning drinks and snacks are provided; children should bring their own lunch with utensils and cups. The bootcamp requires a minimum of 16 students and registrants will be notified three days in advance if cancellation is necessary.

Access and Affordability

Thanks to generous corporate donations, NewTechKids offers subsidized spots (€25) for children from low-income families with a Stadspas. Regular registration is €296.92. NewTechKids has been running these popular computer science bootcamps in Amsterdam
